March of Return

In 2018 something special started in Gaza. This was the MARCH of RETURN.

The March of Return was a civil society movement. This was not by Hamas or any other organization. This was by the people. The March of Return was a demand to return to our homes.

I want to make it clear for you… maybe some of you don’t know, most of the people in Gaza are refugees from 1948. My family is from Jaffa, the historical capital of Palestine - today it is called Tel Aviv. But my family was deported from there in 1948, and this is how we arrived to Gaza, as refugees. So most people in Gaza are already refugees from other places that are today in Israel.

The March of Return, was our demand to go back to our lands. This was a peaceful march. Every Friday, for more than 1-year, we marched towards the Separation Fence to ask to return.

But Israeli snipers would shoot people and kill and injure. Every week for more than 1-year, there was hundreds of injured people and killing. Every Friday. For 1 year.
