I am a 40-year-old independent photojournalist from Gaza, with 20 years of experience working in the field. My work has been published in Le Monde, the New York Times, the BBC, and Al Jazeera, among others. I have received multiple Arab and international awards (BAFTA, FREE PRESS, HIPA and LEICA awards among others) and I am a member of the Activestills photography collective.
Like most of the people in Gaza my family as well are refugees from 1948. My family is from Jaffa, the historical capital of Palestine - today it is called Tel Aviv. My family was deported from there in 1948, and this is how we arrived to Gaza, as refugees.
I was severely injured while covering the 2006 Israeli invasion of the Al-Shujaiyya neighborhood.
Since October 7, 2023, I have documented the destruction of Gaza. My family moved to Rafah at the beginning of the war, after our home was destroyed by a bomb. We later decided to evacuate to Cairo as refugees in 2024 and then again to the Netherlands in 2025.

My Story
In 2006, very early in my career, I got injured in Al-Shuja’iyya, by an Israeli strike. I was heavily injured all over my body. I spent 1-year in the hospital but until today I am getting treatments.
But this did not stop me from being a journalist. I was passionate to go back to taking photos.
