In May 2021, Gaza experienced 11 days of intense attacks by Israel, following the kidnapping and murder of Mohammed Abu Khdeir in East Jerusalem. Israeli airstrikes targeted infrastructure and residential areas in Gaza, while Palestinian resistance groups fired rockets toward Israeli cities. Over 250 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, including many civilians, and widespread destruction displaced thousands of families. A ceasefire was reached on May 21, but the humanitarian and psychological impact of the attacks continued long after.
